I had the pleasure of working with Joe Hodgin as music composer for my short film “interrupted.” I could tell from the first draft that he was immediately headed in the right direction. He enhanced all the different emotions that I was trying convey in different scenes making the film much better with his artistic contribution. Besides his obvious musical talent, what I believe sets Joe apart from others was his ability to listen to my point of view as the director of the film. I truly feel that Joe did an incredible job taking my film exactly where I wanted it to be fulfilling my vision, but with his own artistic spin. He took the final product beyond my own expectations.

Joe Hodgin is a treasure! Film music must have the same relationship to the film drama and that can sometimes become notoriously tricky; Joe has an extraordinary aptitude to make the exchange of ideas between director and composer incredibly clear-cut. Joe composed an otherworldly score for my film (“MOMMY”) one that dreadfully fits the horror and hits all the different emotions but still is a narrative piece that also stands on its own, as music.

With original music being the only thing missing on my short film, I was on the hunt for a composer that could really emphasise every emotion in any given scene and just connect with the movie to create a piece that would really grasp the audience. Enter Joe Hodgin. Joe instantly vibed with the film and I really was lost for words on numerous occasions when Joe came back with a track and asked for feedback. Joe really showed that the passion for his craft throughout composing the film and it didn’t go unnoticed by myself or the public as his work earned him an award and an award nomination. This collaboration with Joe didn’t come without my doubts at the start as we are from different parts of the globe but the doubts were almost immediately erased when the time difference had little impact on how we communicated and how efficiently. Overall, Joe captured the essence of what I wanted to create within the film and the award he won was very well deserved and having Joe work on my film was a decision that I never will look back on. I look forward to working with Joe in the future.
